Founder’s Story: Héctor Luis Rivera, CEO of Taínos Community Agency

My name is Héctor Luis Rivera, and I am the proud founder and CEO of Taínos Community Agency—an organization born from years of hands-on experience in human services, advocacy, education, and community empowerment.

Growing up in a vibrant Puerto Rican household and later working throughout Philadelphia, I witnessed firsthand how marginalized individuals often struggle to access the basic resources they need to thrive. Whether it was a senior in need of reliable home care, a teenager unsure of their career path, or a Spanish-speaking parent unfamiliar with the school system, the gap in services was always clear—and unacceptable.

My professional journey spans nearly two decades across education, behavioral health, and social work. From my early days as a Bilingual Social Worker with Salvation Army Family Services to designing training curricula as a Certified Peer Specialist, I’ve worn many hats—teacher, counselor, advocate, and mentor. Every role taught me something new about resilience, equity, and the power of compassionate guidance.

While working at Community Behavioral Health and Holy Redeemer Support at Home, I realized the community needed more than fragmented services. They needed a trusted hub—a place that provided culturally competent care with a holistic approach. That dream became Taínos Community Agency.

At Taínos, we offer:

• Home Health Aide Services grounded in dignity and professionalism

• Job Coaching to help individuals prepare for and retain meaningful employment

• Tutoring and educational support for children and adults

• Life Coaching that includes budgeting, planning, and setting personal goals

• Peer Support from professionals who truly understand their clients’ journeys

We named our agency "Taínos" to honor the indigenous roots of resilience, strength, and self-reliance—a legacy I see every day in the communities we serve.

My mission is simple: to empower people to live fuller, more independent lives by connecting them with the tools, care, and support they deserve. At Taínos Community Agency, we don’t just offer services—we build relationships, foster growth, and uplift our community from within.
